Ramadan falls on the 9th month of the Islamic year. Puasa is Malay for "fasting". Fasting in Islam means abstaining from eating, drinking, smoking and indulging in any form of behaviour that serves to nullify the fast. During Ramadan, Muslims fast from dawn to dusk and perform religious duties, such as reading the Quran. All Muslims are required to fast, with the exception of children who have not reached puberty, feeble elderly, the sick whose health is likely to be severely affected by fasting, expectant mothers and women nursing their children. Women who are menstruating can take a maximum of 10 days off. However, they must make up for each day taken off at another time. Travellers are also permitted to eat during the period of fasting provided they make up for the lost days later on. Fast is broken after sunset when it is time for the evening meal, which is known as Iftar.

chinese new year
- On the Chinese New Year eve, family members usually gather at the home of the parents or elder siblings for the reunion dinner, 除夕团年饭. It is also common to hold the reunion dinner at Chinese restaurants. Every dish or food consumed has symbolic meanings.
After the reunion dinner, most people will visit the night market for some last minute shopping or to wait for sharp discounts after midnight. Others visit their favorite temple to offer their prayers immediate after midnight .Many devotees hope to be the first person to offer their prayers and the queues often starts forming hours before midnight. Traditionally, firecrackers were ignited as part of the celebration but they are banned in most countries for safety reasons. Despite the ban, firecrackers continue to be a popular symbol during Chinese New Year. It is usually not difficult to stay awake since there are a lot of activities and excitement everywhere. The first day of the Chinese New Year is usually a family affair. Children will visit their parents to wish them a happy new year followed by elders in the family. The elders will return the visit on the following day or during the weekends. Poem !!! FROM R.Q
There's nothin like a fifth grade crush.
When you see that girl it's such a rush.
She's playin hop-scotch with her two best friends
Her hair flowin so wild in the crisp autumn wind.
She is like an angel in your eye
Wherever she walks the sun will shine.
Her beauty is that of the most pleasant flower
Just to have one minute with her shall seem like a hour.
So go talk to her you coward,
is what you say in your mind, but all you can do is just rub your eyes.
This girl you see has got you in a trance
Your head all caught up in this puppy love romance.
So who knows just go and give it a chance.
You never know what she might think of you so just walk up to her and play it cool.
But all you can feel is the sweat dripping from your hands,
your getting all nervous, your doomed!
You have no plan!
So as you gather your courage and your chest begins to swell,
Ring! Ring! Ring!
Thank you Jesus for they have rang the bell.

So as you gather your courage and your chest begins to swell,
Ring! Ring! Ring!
Thank you Jesus for they have rang the bell.
